For my nature photography I work with a Canon system designed for image quality,
speed, reach and reliability. At the centre is the Canon EOS R5 Mark II – combined
with RF lenses that are fast, flexible and reliable outdoors.
My main lens is the Canon RF 70-200mm F2.8L IS USM Z. It gives me the exact mix
of brightness, flexibility, speed and image character that I need most often for
nature, wildlife, details and atmospheric light.
Nature photography is rarely comfortable. Light, weather and wildlife do not follow
a fixed plan. That is why I need equipment that is fast, reliable and flexible –
from wide landscape scenes to distant wildlife.
My gear should help me capture the moment without distracting me from the subject.
In the end, the camera is only one part of the image. The rest is observation,
patience, light and respect for nature.
Ready for the moment
With wildlife, changing light and difficult weather, the system must be ready
immediately. That is why a clear equipment structure matters to me: camera first,
then my main lens, followed by specialist lenses for distance, travel, details,
wide views and additional perspectives.
The RF 70-200mm remains the centre of my work. The RF 200-800mm complements it
when long distance and respectful separation are more important.
Camera and lenses
My Canon system
The list deliberately starts with the camera. After that come the lenses – first
my main lens, then the additions for distance, travel, details and wide-angle views.

Storage · Power · Safety
Backup is part of photography
For me, a photography day does not end with the last image. Saving and checking
the data is just as important as taking the photo.
Canon batteries and chargers
Enough power is essential outdoors. That is why clean battery and charger
organisation is a fixed part of my photography workflow.
CFexpress and SD cards
For fast shooting, high-resolution files and reliable storage, I use CFexpress
Type B and SDXC UHS-II memory cards.
External SSD
On the road, I back up my images to an external SSD. The files are not only
collected, but checked and organised carefully.
ASUS notebook
I use the notebook mainly to transfer photos from memory cards to the SSD –
not for heavy image editing while travelling.
How I work outdoors
I try to photograph calmly and respectfully. Especially with wildlife, distance
is important. A long telephoto lens helps me show animals in their habitat without
getting unnecessarily close.
I observe light, movement and behaviour. Often the first frame is not the strongest
one, but the moment after it: when the light changes, an animal lifts its head or
the landscape suddenly feels exactly right.
The RF 70-200mm is my most important tool for many situations: close enough for
strong subjects, flexible enough for changing scenes and bright enough for moments
when the light is beautiful but no longer simple.

In the end, the moment matters
A good camera helps. A good lens helps too. But the image is created outdoors:
in the light, in the weather, in the calm and in the right moment. The RF 70-200mm
is my most important lens because it covers many of these moments best.
